Vacuum is a volume of space that is essentially empty of matter, such that its gaseous pressure is much less than atmospheric pressure.

Vacuum is usually measured by its absolute pressure and is divided into several types (according to EN 13792). Low Vacuum: 1000 to 1mbar, Fine Vacuum: 1 to 10-3mbar and High Vacuum: 10-3 to 10-7mbar. Laboratory applications usually require use of suction. Suction is a flow of media into partial vacuum, or region with low pressure. It is being used to clear surfaces, containers or tubing of residues or other materials.
